| Following the events of September 11, 2001 and recommendations from the Department of Homeland Security the School Safety and Security Division was established.
To provide this division with the proper leadership and decision-making authority, a captain was assigned to command the division. The captain is responsible for the overall safety of all our school children and the security of all school facilities within the City of Holyoke and the officers assigned thereto. The Bureau is staffed with school resource and DARE officers. The captain assigned to this position visits each school daily and works very closely with the principals and councilors to enhance the safety and security of the students, teachers and staff. The captain assigned to this division is responsible for the safety and security of the two high schools, ten grade schools and the alternative education school. Additionally, the captain is responsible for the security at all after school events and special school gatherings. |
