Police Officer Holyoke is a Civil Service Police Department, and the first step in the process to joining our department is taking the Massachusetts Police Officer Entry Level Civil Service Exam. Information on that test can be found at Mass.gov/civilservice.
Once the results of the examination are released, those with passing scores will be ranked in order of eligibility by the Civil Service Commission. Residents of Holyoke and those who have served in the Armed Forces receive preference in hiring.
When our department needs to hire, we submit a request to Civil Service for an eligible list. Those with high enough scores will be notified by Civil Service to report to Holyoke Police Headquarters to sign the list of names, indicating your interest in the position. You will be notified by our hiring staff directly of the next steps in the process after that.
Please note that all police officer hiring, with the exception of lateral transfers, is governed by this process. Please do not call the department or submit an application or your resume, unless you are notified that you have been reached on the Civil Service list.
